R.G. Anand

A well known personality in Delhi, he achieved architectural marvels during the period 1950’s to 1970’s and was involved in designing and execution of major institutions/buildings and universities such as Kurukshetra University, Springdale School Pusa road, Guru Harkishan Public School, Vasant Vihar, INA Market, Yashwant Place, CPI building, Max Muller Bhawan Janpath and Kelvinator Factory at Ballabhgarh and many such other landmark buildings. He was also in the town planning team of DLF colonies in Delhi like Greater Kailash I and II, South Extention, Geetanjali colony, Punjabi Bagh, Kailash colony, Model Town and Rajouri Garden. Besides the architectural marvels he was a man of many interests. He taught at the school of Town planning and Architecture Delhi (SPA) but found enough time to serve several cultural organizations in the capital. Theater was his first love. Since 1947, when he came to Delhi from Lahore in the wake of partition, he was responsible for almost thirty theatre productions almost one production every year. He was an outstanding playwriter and wrote eighteen plays. Mr. R.G Anand was the driving force behind Indraprastha Theatre. He was awarded the Sahitya Kala Parished award in 1971. His journey of life came to an abrupt end in 1982. Was a great soul and a unifier, ready to help everybody.
